Flavius Josephus, Contra Apionem 1.2.14:
… the first Greek philosophers to treat of celestial and divine subjects, such as Pherecydes of Syros, Pythagoras, and Thales, were, as the world unanimously admits, in their scanty productions the disciples of the Egyptians and Chaldeans.
