Text
Mandaic Manuscript 47 (Drower Collection):
And now, you glorious Rue, I adjure you and praise you by the Spring (of Life) and the Great First Name. Like (It) you did spring forth of your own strength and came forth and came into being: the market-gardener sowed you not in his plot, nor did the gardener plant you in his pleasance, that you shatter, drive away and render impotent against this body of N. son of N. all (evil) spirits - every spirit of Nanai and all her creatures; every spirit of Astarte and all her creatures; every spirit of Sin and all his creatures; every spirit of Kiwan and all his creatures; every spirit of Bel and all his creatures; every spirit of Nirig and all his creatures; every spirit of the Roof-Demon and all his creatures; and “Sleeping-Waking”; and Adonai, Daniš and Zakia-B[ … ] and gods and male idols and all evil beings male and female that slay embryos in the womb of their mothers and (cause) embryos (to) go wrong in the wombs of their mothers; and (evil ?) vows, curses and provocations (imprecations ?) of gods and men. You, Medicine, by your potency harass, drive away and make impotent all these evil spirits and illnesses, maladies and dire diseases from the body, spirit, soul, limbs, and frame of N., son of N. Further, I adjure you, Glorious Medicine, by the male gods and female astartes; by Bel, lord of god and men; by Nirig, lord of force, arms and war; by Nebo, lord of wisdom and lord of divination and augury from astrological conjunctions; by Šamiš (the sun) that shines on you; by Sin (the moon) that travels over you, by Wind, Fire and Water; by the wind of mountain air that was your nurse; by the mountains which bore you; by the gorges and craggy heights that reared you; and by the waterways in them.
